Overdead

Ирэн Макгроул
Had I a heart to keep inside
I wouldn't be so brave and straight,
I wouldn't even set my sight
On all these things which cannot wait.

But now I know that world's the sea
And after death there is a life.
And I contempt the people I see -
They're almost saint as almost blind.

I learnt the meaning of my life,
So I try no more to pretend.
I laugh at those who're still alive
For I'm already overdead,

For I've rejected me that time,
For I've refused to hear the bell...
I'm waiting for my God to come
And Devil's late again as well.

Oh, everything would be alright
Had I a heart to keep inside.
