У лукоморья дуб зелёный;
In a curved seashore stands a green oak,
Златая цепь на дубе том:
A golden chain hangs that tree on,
И днём и ночью кот учёный
A trained cat has been making his walk
Всё ходит по цепи кругом;
The chain on all days and nights long.
Идёт направо - песнь заводит,
If turns to right, he does a song start,
Налево - сказку говорит.
If turns to left, he says a tale.
Там чудеса: там леший бродит,
There are much wonders: goblin’s found,
Русалка на ветвях сидит;
Mermaid does sit on branches there.
Там на неведомых дорожках
There on unknown paths are traces
Следы невиданных зверей;
Of the before unknown beasts,
Избушка там на курьих ножках
On chicken legs hut really stands there,
Стоит без окон, без дверей;
Without doors and windows being.
Там лес и дол видений полны;
There wood and dale are full of visions,
Там о заре прихлынут волны
At dawn of day will waves that way rush
На брег песчаный и пустой,
To seashore which will empty be,
И тридцать витязей прекрасных
And thirty handsome knights in sequence
Чредой из вод выходят ясных,
Will go out of clear waters,
И с ними дядька их морской;
With them an uncle of the sea.
Там королевич мимоходом
In passing there a prince does capture
Пленяет грозного царя;
A formidable local king,
Там в облаках перед народом
In clouds there in front of nation
Через леса, через моря
Does wizard carry hero in
Колдун несёт богатыря;
A time through forests, over sea.
В темнице там царевна тужит,
In prison there does grieve a princess,
А бурый волк ей верно служит;
A brown wolf to her much staunch is.
Там ступа с Бабою Ягой
There witches’ broom with witch herself
Идёт, бредёт сама собой,
Does wander faraway and well.
Там царь Кащей над златом чахнет;
There king Kashchei pines with gold over,
Там русский дух... там Русью пахнет!
The Russian spirit there that holds on!
И там я был, и мёд я пил;
And I was there and drinking’s honey,
У моря видел дуб зелёный;
Saw near sea a green oak lonely,
Под ним сидел, и кот учёный
Where a trained cat beneath that sat
Свои мне сказки говорил.
And his tall tales to me long said.
