Simplicity and clarity
Are sisters of success.
The way to popularity
Implies a certain stress.
We get completely ravenous
When readers hop away.
But why by Jove none of us
Diminished disarray
Which reigns in modern poetry?
At least in its mainstream,
That looks like war-torn Coventry
(You know what I mean).
And many Men of Letters
Who hover in the sky
Have crushed in anger feathers
While seeing how we try
To put some shades of meaning
To what deserves trash bins.
It’s only the beginning
Oh Lord! Forgive our sins …
