Walter

Рамиро Лебедев-Толмач
Everybody has his own secret. Mr Bark is no exception. He is very talkative: he can talk about his garden or about John Silver’s relatives, but he never tells anybody about his son Walter. Small wonder he forgets about him because Walter is in prison.
Walter is a professional robber. When he was a small boy, he stole his friends’ socks and shoelaces, when he became older, he started to rob garbage trucks. When he was sixteen, he tried to rob a funeral procession.
Walter is twenty-nine now and he has spent most of his life in prison. His shirt and trousers are striped, his hat is striped too, even his cat Fomka is striped.
Walter is quite a famous person in England. Sometimes he appears on TV, sometimes he gives interviews to newspapers. From time to time local boy scouts come to see him and bring him files and master-keys hidden in bread. At present Walter has a very good collection of boy scouts’ presents. But he is not going to escape from his prison. Walter wants to start writing his memoirs. If somebody publishes his memoirs he will become a millionaire. But he has one little problem - he can’t write. Bad luck...
