Jeb s Collection Nightmare in the Cemetery

Рамиро Лебедев-Толмач
Nick was walking along a deserted road towards the local bar. It was almost dark, the full moon was beginning to rise, and an unusual silence chilled the air. Nick had a funny feeling that someone was watching him and he felt a cold wind tickle the back of his neck.
He immediately thought of the old fortune-teller who told him to avoid deserted roads at night because evil awaited him. Of course at the time he only laughed at her because he was not superstitious, but now her words echoed in his head. He thought that maybe tonight her words might be more than just old superstition.
Suddenly he heard heavy footsteps behind him. He was afraid to turn around and hastened his own steps. His pursuer did the same. Nick cursed and ran like hell as did the steps behind him. He didn’t know how it happened but unfortunately his legs led him into the town cemetery. And before Nick could bat an eye, he was surrounded by skeletons of long since dead people, ghouls at various stages of decay, and a few ghosts swishing through the air. He screamed, and his hair was standing on end.
But now, he recognized one of the creatures. It was Mama Rama, his first mother-in-law. She had always thought that Nick had married her daughter as a way to spite her since she hadn’t liked Nick even when he was a child. She always accused him of ruining her daughter’s life and said she would get even with him some day. But then she’d died unexpectedly.
She started approaching him and then the lid of a coffin blew off and Mama Rama grabbed his arm with her skinny maggot infested hand.
She pulled him to the coffin and started leading him down to what looked like hell. Nick screamed and woke up in a cold sweat shaking all over. Nick decided right then and there that he would only travel along well-lit roads.
