John wanted to get married. His girlfriend was the one he had met at the dance club and they were getting serious. Their parents were dead set against the marriage because they believed their children to be too young. So John and his wife-to-be decided to go to Las Vegas where marriages permits were easy to obtain.
While in Las Vegas they were struck by the incredible number of casinos along the ‘Strip’. They were all brightly lit with huge neon signs attracting your attention. And one got the attention of John’s girl. They didn’t have much money with them, but decided to gamble a little bit of it. First they played the slot machines and John steadily won $100. His girlfriend, however, lost her $20 almost immediately. She got bored and moved on to roulette while John decided to play Black Jack. John’s girl kept on losing money and seemed to be attracted to the games that required more luck than skill. John, however, liked the higher percentage games and was very successful.
Late in the day, she had lost $250 and John won $350. So they were $100 ahead and John decided to watch one of the shows that the casinos provided for free. His girl asked for some of his money and she continued to play.
Two hours later when John came out of the show, his girl had managed to lose all his money and had even pawned the wedding ring. She had gone berserk. He had married a gambling addict and John couldn’t imagine living his whole life with her.
He managed to drag her out, kicking and screaming, of the casino and she was so furious that she made him take her to a lawyer and get a divorce right then and there. It was the shortest marriage ever, less than 24 hours. And they hadn’t even had a honeymoon.
