В школе автор этих строк учил английский и немецкий, а в старших классах активно штудировал русскую поэзию. К этому периоду в жизни автора и относятся попытки переводов любимых русских поэтов на английский язык. Для таких переводческих экспериментов кроме знания языка необходима дерзость и самоуверенность юности; с тех пор попыток перевести русскую поэзию на английский в моей жизни не было.
Хороши эти переводы или плохи - пусть судят носители английского языка. Но я полагаю, что эти тексты имеют право на существование.

A writer if he is a wave
And Russia is a brimy ocean,
He simply cannot stay away
When all the water is in motion.
A writer if he is a nerve
Of a great nation
He simply cannot be unhurt
