Modern Pharisees

Альбина Кумирова
For if you forgive men their trespasses,
your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men their trespasses,
neither will your Father forgive yours.
                Matthew 6:15

My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me.
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish.
                John 10:27-28

But when the Son of Man comes in his glory,
and all the holy angels with him,
then he will sit on the throne of his glory.
Before him all the nations will be gathered,
and he will separate them one from another,
as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
                Matthew 25:31–46

They may know so much,
quote the Bible so often…
To their righteousness they clutch,
but forget their hearts to soften.

They easily begrudge
if one makes mistakes or blunder,
and severely they judge,
ready to accuse and slander.

They are ready to destroy
and refuse all explanations,
gossip strategies deploy,
causing others humiliation.

But when foolish pride swells,
for a soul it’s disaster:
no forgiveness there dwells,
no submission to the Master.

Their hearts are in a mess,
they forget that all are fallen.
Have you met such folks? I guess,
it’s a very common problem.

Those, who repentance knew
at the cross, they know the power
of forgiveness, and, anew,
cannot store their feelings sour.

God transforms our rotten hearts
if we bring them to His Son,
Jesus grace and love imparts, -
over sin and death He won.

He had pardoned us much more,
He commands us to forgive.
Those, who pride and anger store,
cannot in His presence live.

Hey, you, zealous Pharisee,
all equipped with Bible quotes,
full of empty vanity,
are you from the herd of goats?

Do you bitter malice keep,
like spots - the skin of leopard?
Do you know that the sheep,
are obeying the Good Shepherd?
