Not to kings or those, who own riches,
not to Pharisees, or scribes, or law teachers,
not in palaces with gold and marble,
but to shepherds in the fields, who would marvel
at the Lord’s exciting plan, at His light,
angels suddenly appeared in the night.
To the meekest and the weak they told
the good news that were by prophets foretold
that the royal baby born could be found
not in places like a city renowned,
not in temples, even not in a house -
in a manger, full of sheep and of cows!
In the town of Bethlehem, small, forgotten
the God’s Son was born, the only begotten,
who would bring the peace on earth to the poor,
who would rescue them from sin, make secure,
who would give eternal life to those,
each, who loyalty to Christ now shows.
In the glory of the Lord angels, shining,
came to earth to simple folks in good timing.
Shepherds, treated as rejects or pariahs,
were among the first to see the Messiah.
Angels were proclaiming joy to all people,
and through all the times ahead it would ripple.
The good news of mighty God, they were bringing,
to the poorest of poor they were singing,
Angels sang about Christ’s exaltation
to the shepherds, who expected salvation.
To the lowest of low they appeared -
to the shepherds humble group, who God feared.
