Let’s get down to business !
First, let me introduce myself - I am Raisa Snegireva. I was born in Moscow in 1940.
I first started studying English in the third form of secondary school and then continued at university and throughout my life.
I have worked as a book-keeper. In 1960s I worked abroad in Germany and used to speak English with local men who served compulsory military service in the US.
I am not yet completely fluent in English but I practice a lot and gradually making my way to my goal.
Currently I study English here, in the Centre of Social Service ( CHERT-SEV).

I convinced ( or better say I’m sure ) that it is absolutely necessary for any educated person and a good specialist to be able to communicate in English.
Knowledge of foreign languages opens up many doors and opportunities before us. Understanding a different language is like understanding a different world.
I think that English is our ‘serving man’ ( as in poem by Kipling that says
‘ I keep six honest serving men, they taught me all I knew; their names are What and Why and When and How and Where and Who. . . ).
People always wanted to communicate with each other, to understand more about one another.
Languages help people to do that; they are key to solving various economic and political problems that our society faces. Regarding our everyday lives. . .
He, who likes to travel, will have no problems looking for accommodation or a place to have a meal. You, well, you can talk to and become friends with people from different countries.
I personally have a lot of fun writing letters to my British friends in Newcastle.

Inglish is a language of computers and technology. Over half of the world’s scientific literature is in English. You can read the papers, magazines and books written by outstanding authors, watch movies and search for things online.
Hundreds of joint ventures have recently been founded across cities and towns in Russia.
The ability to speak and understand a foreign language is a requirement for many well-paying jobs. It is a must-have skill for any professional in the XXI century, no matter the field they choose.
