From childhood, in fields alone,
surrounded by stubborn sheep,
his faith in God had quietly grown
so strong, unshakable, and deep.
Beyond the letter of the law,
his heart had led him to the Lord
and, looking at the sky, in awe
he learned to trust God’s Holy Word.
With songs overcoming fear,
he wild animals defied,
to God becoming very near,
he on the Lord alone relied.
Overcoming his malaise,
he learned through poetry to pray,
and when he poured to God his praise,
it strengthened courage day by day.
When facing bears all alone,
his faith becoming like a rock
and, placing in the sling a stone,
he practiced to defend the flock.
He learned his enemies to chase
and never at his fate to moan.
This helped him enemy to chase
and kill Goliath with a stone.
His faith was daily cultivated
not with a sword, but with a sling,
before the Lord him elevated
and made him a mighty King.
