В 2022 году специалисты космического агентства NASA доказали, что люди при необходимости способны изменить траекторию движения астероидов-убийц, угрожающих безопасности Земли. В рамках миссии «Испытание перенаправления двойного астероида» (DART) с курса сместили астероид Диморфос. Теперь выяснилось, что вмешательство в полет космического камня имеет неожиданные последствия.

после столкновения аппарата-камикадзе DART
с поверхностью астероида сформировалось облако обломков.
Оно состоит из 37 валунов,
бесконтрольно парящих в космосе.
Размер самых маленьких фрагментов оценивают в 1 метр,
диаметр больших составляет примерно 7 метров.
В настоящее время эти обломки устремились в сторону Марса.
Не исключено, что состоится их столкновение с Красной планетой.

По подсчетам ученых,
если
один из валунов упадет на Марс,
то может
образоваться
новый кратер
диаметром от 200 до 300 метров.
Астрономы опасаются, что
