Words Travel

Jena Woodhouse
Words travel farther
than we ever dreamed
across earth's stratosphere
and, like blood coursing
through the arteries,
ride cables buried in the sea,
unzipping time-zones
as we speak to those
we long to see,
on distant shores.

Words find their way
beyond earth's gravity,
transcending hate
and wars; venture
where no planes can fly,
and birds turn back in terror;
in the cosmos, where the planets
shimmer with vast energies,
words travel, freed
from matter, fear -
the spirit's restless envoys.
