The Sunfish

THE SUNFISH

Навеяно стихотворением Марины Лебедевой "Рыба-солнце"

Here, at the ocean shore the sand is cooling down,
You feel the gentle breathing of the southern night, -
She's looking so nice in her dark velvet gown,
Crowned with the golden Moon, veiled by its magic light...

Look at the ocean now, as it is calmly sleeping
Under the endless blanket of the starry sky;
Just think of all the secrets that its depths are keeping, -
This one is hard to learn, but you can surely try.

Just wait, and you may find that something's coming near
Uprising from the dark, deep underwater caves;
Although it can't be heard, you'll feel it, for it's clear -
A silent heavy sigh beneath the ocean waves.

Don't mind the rising wind, - it's just a little bit dankish, -
Come closer where the waves caress the sandy shore,
Look down, and you'll see me, for here I am - the Sunfish
Or simply Mola Mola, if you like it more.

Stand quietly as you watch my slow and gentle motion;
And when you catch my eyes, you will not see a tear.
If I could only cry, I would have cried an ocean,
To ease the endless pain that my heart has to bear.

Of all the sorry tales that time has been collecting,
The last and saddest story still remains untold, -
You'll see it in my eyes, so sad 'cause they're reflecting
The everlasting sorrow of our fragile world.

...I sat down on the sand, my cheeks were getting dankish
As heart-piercing grief was rising from within;
I couldn't sleep that night - I thought about the Sunfish,
About the saddest eyes that I had ever seen.
