У воді і серед високотрав’я.
Ми робили це в ім’я людини,
В ім’я тварини й Господа.
Але вони не воліли про нас відати,
Бо вже доста зріли однаких.
Ми робили це з уявою і в кольорах,
З переплутаним рудим та чорним волоссям,
І з примхливими вправами насолоди.
Ми робили це, немов були колесами, чи святими створіннями,
Або ж бойовими колісницями пророків.
Ми робили це немов були
О шести крилах й шестиногі.
Але небеса над нами були твердими,
Як і гаряча земля, що під нами.

We did it in front of the mirror
And in the light. We did it in darkness,
In water and in the high grass.
We did it in honour of man
And in honour of beast and in honour of God.
But they did not want to know about us,

We did it with imagination and colours,
With confusion of reddish hair and brown
And with difficult gladdening

Like wheels and holly creatures

We did it six wings
And six legs
But the heavens
Were hard above us
