Mirrors

Some emulate the envious queen,
seeking in mirrors
lies and complicity:
'Mirror, mirror on the wall,
who is the fairest of us all?'

But if the mirror tells the truth,
it's smashed to smithereens.

Others search the glass for flaws,
not reassured by what they see,
and sometimes, in despair
they, too, destroy the messenger.

Then there are those who shun the looking
glass, silvered with truth and lies -
living with blank walls, rather than
confront the mirror's heartless eye...
