White cedars

Jena Woodhouse
- Melia azedarach -

I planted frangipani,
cypress, pomegranates,
for love of fragrance,
symmetry
and rosy fruit
respectively,
while white cedars germinated
secretly, insistently,
lofty, clean of limb,
with graceful canopies,
as if asserting primogeniture.

Since rainforest claimed
the eastern ranges,
through millennia of verdure
cedars have belonged.
