Ben Webster was a fine jazz tenor saxophonist, a gifted vocalist, musician.
Once having fallen for a saxophone, he set out a dream, goal and ambition.
He had become the best-selling jazz tenor saxophonist in his time and ever.
Ben had been focused, conscientious, detail-oriented in his every endeavor.
His play was known for persistence, warmth, passion, magnetism, vitality,
Fondness, simplicity, tenderness, kindness, gentleness and sentimentality.
Webster possessed distinctive timbre, tempo, sense of rhythm and motion.
His music was filled with sweetness, lyricism, sensuality – range of emotions.
There had been times when Webster played the style that’s harsh or rough.
Yet he would switch to gentle kind when brutal ballads had sufficed enough.
Webster exhibited, exuded courage, strength, strong presence, stimulation.
He had established as a legend, who had influenced others thru inspiration.
On March 27th, birthday of Ben Webster, we celebrate the master of his craft.
He integrated and enriched the styles of Young and Hawkins as a blend or graft.
Ben left us his recorded music – an imprint of technical virtuosity and versatility.
He was an example of quality performance, exquisite playing style and viability.
