I cannot have you

Альбина Кумирова

I cannot have you but I can’t be bitter,
For like a child by a Christmas tree
I am delighted in your smile’s glitter
And in a festive mood - to a degree.

I cannot have you, but it does not shatter
My world that anyway is just a mist;
I’m drawn to you, but still it does not matter –
One cannot have all pleasures that exist.

What is my life? Only a slate
To fill with writing for the Final Day,
It’s only a transitory state
Until the angels call me faraway.

I live in expectation of the heavens
And for the time being I rejoice:
Although I have for you some crazy cravings,
I hear a higher call, a stronger voice,

Except for those moments, when your eyes
Seek mine, and I feel them like a kiss
So tangible, so real that defies
My patience for the future heavens’ bliss.
