Ascent

ASCENT

   Dedicated to Kailas-ben

The vasts beyond all seeing
     Will call our zeal sublime,
The mountains spellbinding
     Will grant us daring climb.

Up, through the passes rugged
     We’ll clamber for the dream
Towards the wides to be hugged,
     Towards the heights’ far gleam.

Through the unfading valleys,
     Through the eternal snows
A Guide will lead us, viewless,
     Up the alps to know.

The furious storms appalling
     Won’t shake our skyward claim:
Up, for the azure calling
     Burns our heart of flame.

We’ll climb the cliffs unkind,
We’ll win the peak we sing,
Leaving the past behind
     Soar on the future’s wings.

There, on the world’s grand summit
     Where Spirit’s bonds are lost
The ethers vast with no mete
     Will sate our soul’s thirst.

And drinking whites of Coilas,
     We’ll taste life’s deepest sense.
Then greater peaks will call us
     Up, to a new ascent.
