Custody fight

Альбина Кумирова

Tooth and nail we were fighting
tooth and nail with each other,
crazy father, crazy mother,
silly parents, for you.

Words were clawing and biting,
our moods were full of tension,
but you needed just attention,
reassurance, peace, and love.

Does it matter who was right
in the battle never-ending,
in attacking and defending,
is it matter who was wrong?

Does it matter who was lying,
twisting facts, manipulating?
Why the time spent debating,
making points so strong?

What the point was in trying?
Looking back, I am bewildered.
In the end, what fights have yielded,
if I lost you anyway?

If I knew the ways of fate,
every day would have been prized.
No chance for me your eyes
to fill up with love today.

Why was I my fate defying
and my powers asserting?
To this day I am still hurting
from the hurt that’s caused to you.
