Голубая луна (англ. Blue Moon) — термин, применяемый в астрономии для определения второго полнолуния в течение одного календарного месяца. Само полнолуние имеет обычный, пепельно-серый цвет; появление у Луны голубого оттенка является крайне редким явлением, обусловленным оптическим эффектом.Наблюдать это явление вы сможете 31 июля 2015 года.
Идиоматическое выражение «Once in a Blue Moon" переводится как «Однажды при голубой луне» и эквивалентно русскому выражению «После дождичка в четверг» (то есть крайне редко, либо никогда).
