The Athos air encompasses the pilgrims,
Which are ascending to the rocky mountain top.
But those that live there do not mind the millions,
No outward influence should make their spirits drop.
The path that many people take, ascending,
They undertake for self possession’s sake.
While on the side the hermits live unbending,
For on this path their future life’s at stake
They both are on the mountain, always,
Directed t’wards the Light ahead.
Being accompanied by prayers
Of holy men who lie here dead.

Паломники и отшельники: на одной высоте
Афонские воздухи окружили
Паломников - так в небеса стремились,
А те, кто прикровенно рядом жили,
Поднявшимся горе не удивились.
Тропа наполнена людьми отчасти, –
Они к небесной устремились власти,
Где живы в тишине уединенья
Пустынники, сокрытые от тленья.
Творить подъем по тропам неустанно,
Вместить частицу света невозбранно.
Мольбами тех, кто в дикой жил пустыне,
Идти горе, не оступившись ныне!
