Flask of Spare Fire

Lxe
"Animals stood by the door,
they did not hide.
People shot them
and they died." ["Beetle in the Anthill"]

If you ride the wind to wake me up along the night,
I unlock the window without toggling light.
Think of coming closer, see the lowlands really can't complain
as the moonlit groves lie reviving in the rain.

If the morning finds you sleeping on the cold leaves,
playing poor Lisa, having no use for eaves,
join my dreams but not too quizzy where it's easy to pick up the clue;
no matter idle or busy, I will go after you.

If you aren't neighbored by the clouds any more,
help me to belabor all the dreams I can't ignore.
In return for such an effort I will find you snow white;
my way, likely errant, but at least it would not spite.

That's the door,
and animals
are marching mile by mile;
less or more,
they are beguiled
by poisoned needle's wile.
But where I stand is my empire,
here's always my
flask of spare fire,
and so am I.
