My Favourite Store

Рамиро Лебедев-Толмач
«Khoztovary» is my favourite local store. When I was still a little child, my father used to send me there to buy a box of matches or a pack of cigarettes.
During Perestroika years it was turned into a striptease bar for teenagers called «Bush’s legs». Nevertheless, during the daytime it sold everything from underwear to minitractors, and from garlic to perfume.
5 years ago, after the seventh manager of the night bar had been killed in a bloody shoot-out, the district authorities had to close the store’s night section at the request of the angry local mothers.
As to the striptease girls, they were employed as shop-assistants in their usual uniforms. But as you understand, it’s not the only reason why it was so successful.
To tell you the truth, you can hardly meet there top fashion designers, but I can guarantee that you’ll never forget going there as long as you live. And it’s not only my own opinion.
Whenever I have guests from distant corners of our still great country, I always suggest that they should go to that very shop. Moreover, though it doesn’t often seem polite, I make them eat what they have bought there. After that I don’t have any major problems with my guests. No guests, no problems, you know. So, every time you have nowhere to go, be my guest and welcome to «Khoztovary»!
