Lucy and her Friends

                Lucy
Lucy is a cat. She lives in a big house. Her house is in a village. Her village is not very large. It has only twenty houses in it. Lucy’s day is very busy. She wakes up at nine o’clock, but she gets up only at eleven. She doesn’t like milk for breakfast, she prefers kittecat. If you give her some Russian sausages, she will despise you all her life.
Lucy’s duty is to catch mice. She knows only one mouse in her house, his name is Martin. Martin is a good chap and he never steals her favourite kittecat. Moreover, he is crazy about sausage. O.K. Let him do what he wants. Why kill him for such a trifle? Anyway, sometimes Lucy and Martin play cat-and-mouse to please her human friends. Well, people like sometimes to be fooled.
                Martin
Martin is a mouse. He also lives in a big house in a village. His life is terrible because it is full of danger. He has no real friends. But he has Lucy, you may say. Oh, dear! Lucy is a big black cat who likes to play cat-and-mouse. What an awful game it is! Lucy has no heart at all. She can chase him for hours just for fun. So Martin gets nervous every time he sees her. Can you call it real friendship?
P.S. Martin isn’t crazy about sausage at all. It was only a joke. Now he must be on a diet because of Lucy. If he is not in a good shape, she will catch him sooner or later.
                Pussy
Pussy is still a little kitten. She has her own place and her own toys. She also has an elder sister, Lucy, who is very proud of herself. Lucy protects her house from hungry mice. She can run after every good-looking mouse all day long breaking cups and plates on her way. But she’s never caught a single mouse in her life. So who needs such a show?
Pussy has a neighbour, Rex, who is a big clever dog. Rex despises all cats except Pussy. She is a happy exception because she steals cigars for him. Of course, Rex knows Lucy and Martin. He says Martin is tired of Lucy. He is afraid she must be ill.
But Pussy doesn’t care about it. She has her own life and her own problems. She wants to become a private detective when she grows up. Pussy is a very curious kitten and she always asks strange questions. For example, usually dogs never smoke, but Rex does. Who taught him to smoke? It’s a good question, isn’t it? Or Martin says he doesn’t like kittecat; what if he does?
