A Ming Vase

A burglar broke into an old woman’s ground-floor flat to try to steal a valuable Ming vase. However, he didn’t realize that the woman, Mrs. Carol Adams, owned a fierce dog. So here are the statements that the lady and the intruder gave to the police.
‘I was woken up by my dog’s barking at about 12:30. Max is a very quiet creature and he will never make a sound unless something terrible happens. So I opened the door of my bedroom and looked inside. Apparently, there was a burglar in the sitting-room looking for my Ming vase. It was a present from my second husband who was an archeologist. But the vase had been broken! I was so furious that I returned to my bedroom and called the police. They arrived in no time, arrested the man and we all made a trip to the police station.’
‘I broke the kitchen window and climbed into the kitchen at about 12:25. Then I opened the door of the sitting-room and saw the vase. When I was about to put it into my bag, that crazy dog started barking at me! Trying to protect myself, I threw that vase at the dog but the beast went berserk. I had to get out of the place somehow. I rushed to the study window, but it had bars on it. So I started banging on the wall shouting for help. When the police arrived I was almost happy to see them.’
