Let s Be Friends

Рамиро Лебедев-Толмач
Mark is a prison warden. He’s never had any enemies in his life. From his point of view, it’s necessary to have only friends. As a matter of fact, even his prisoners are his good pals. Walter is no exception. Mark’s boss, Mr Handcuffs, says he is nuts. O.K. and who isn’t? Of course he looks clumsy in his prison uniform. His shoes are a size too big. His trousers are all patched and darned. His top hat has large holes in it. In spite of all said, even Mr Handcuffs takes his hat off to him. So, as you can see, appearances are deceiving.
Believe it or not, Walter is such a good chap! He has a good sense of humour and all his jokes are funny. As he puts it himself, he always tries to keep a stiff upper lip. And people respect him for it. As a result of his good nature, he has dozens of visitors day and night.
Being a kind man, Walter can receive anybody but on one condition: no milk in any form. So every time he has a new guest, Walter makes sure he hasn’t brought any curds or sour cream. Generally speaking, he is not afraid of milk, he is simply allergic to it. Is it clear? Not yet? O.K. - here’s an example. If you have a loaf of bread as a present, please, come in. If you have a bottle of milk, you must be crazy...
