Ничто так не порабощает человекa, как желания,
но чем больше он им подчиняется, делая то, что ему хочется,
тем свободнее он себя чуствует.
Живёт в душе желаний загадочный народ:
Накормишь – вымирает, не кормишь – оживает
И в бой с тобой идет.
С желанием плохи шутки, борьба с ним нелегка:
Желание - малютка в течение минутки
Растёт до потолка!
Оно хитрей лисицы, желанье ловко врёт!
Тихоней притворится, в засаде притаится
И в плен тебя берёт.
Нас мучает желаний неистовый народ,
Но кто его не знает, не любит, не страдает
Тот вовсе не живёт, тот просто не живёт!
Wild beast we call “desire”
A poem from the cycle "Cries of a simple soul"
Nothing enslaves like a desire,
but the more one submits to this slavery
by doing what one wants,
the more liberated one feels.
Wild beast we call “desire”
And always have a few in a queue -
If fed it will expire,
Else it will start a fire
Then go after YOU.
It will not take a joke,
Will fight you to the end:
Submit and it will croak,
Resist – it’ll put on a cloak
And will grow fast and grand.
It is the best of liars,
It masks its powerful push,
While quietly sets fires,
Seduces with admires,
And gets you by the ambush.
It pushes us around,
Can drive us rather mad,
Makes it hard to stand our ground,
But if it’s not around -
What kind of life is that?
Nyet!
It was once called a “streetcar”,
Its driver is a brute, though cute -
At times drives it like a sports car,
Sometimes s/he goes too far
And chooses a strange route...
The ride is quite eye popping.
Last stop means you are dead,
But people are on-off hopping,
Playing wild games of life’s shopping -
They hope,
Push envelope,
Pray to the Pope,
Cope,
Elope,
Beg, bite and bet...
A streetcar named desire -
You carry all I love,
And cherish, and admire!
I join a praising choir
That sings - see all the above.
