ЖАРКИЙ ДЕНЁК В ЛОС-АНДЖЕЛЕСЕ
мы идём в забегаловку
и все они напротив двери
под навесом.
сейчас два часа пополудни
и волосы их седые
и все они пожилые,
эти дамочки,
пожилые и тощие, и
они улыбаются,
по какой-то причине
они улыбаются и
все они ждут автобус.
леди своими летами
между 60-ю и 85-ю
и они такие худые
и столь белоснежные и
улыбающиеся
улыбающиеся.
мы протискиваемся между ними
и занимаем столик
и подходит
официантка
пока я думаю
где их мужчины?
и я знаю что мужчины
в могилах
мужчины в прохладе гробниц
в этот неимоверно жаркий денёк
а худые
седые леди
прячутся от солнца
пока
мужчины прохлаждаются в полном мраке
она заказывает
сырный стейк
а я
большой сэндвич.

A HOT DAY IN LOS ANGELES
we go to the sandwich shop
and they are all in front of the door
under the awning.
it is two o'clock in the afternoon
and their hair is white
and they are all old,
old and thin
the ladies are, and
smiling,
for some reason they are
smiling and
they are all waiting for the bus.
the ladies are between
60 and 85
and so thin
and so white and
smiling
smiling.
we push through between them
and get a table
and the waitress
walks up
while I'm thinking,
where are their men?
and I know the men are
in the tombs
the men are in the coolness of the tombs
on this very hot day
and the thin
white ladies
hide from the sun
while
the men are cool in the very dark
she orders a
cheesesteak and I
order a hoagie.
