I need to know

Альбина Кумирова
I need to know that I am alive -
to be besotted or in earnest love,
and, looking for the words in poems, dive
into the blue of skies that’s stretched above.

To be a shining rainbow, a source
of sparkling joy that spurns the force of night,
and even in the Sodom’s evil curse
to be a pure tear reflecting light.

A human spirit’s crippled, damaged, lame,
vulgarity and cynicism are trendy,
but I, on roads treacherously bendy,
compassion and humanity proclaim.

I try to guard my spirit from decay,
and from the world where finiteness is reigning,
I move towards the coast far away,
where life increases but my death is waning.

I am ignoring other coasts’ call.
I need to be where I’m so alive
and far more living than throughout all
decades that before I did survive.
