The heart is deceitful above all things,
and desperately wicked: who can know it?

How wickedly deceitful is the heart!
Enslaving everyone to their ways
satanic hordes deploy the finest art
to keep the humankind in a haze.
Our hearts are hooked on wide-spread beliefs
of our importance and self-worth,
thus pride leads to so many griefs
and, as we know, sin to death gives birth.
Oh, crooked arguments behind human acts!
Oh, cunning motivations of some deeds!
We easily take fantasies as facts,
which readily imagination breeds.
The very nature of the heart precludes
to look into itself and see deceit.
How easily our ego self-deludes!
How quickly it’s conceiving a conceit!
How often we are reaping what we sew,
when with misdeeds we ourselves disgrace!
Oh wretched souls! How can we know
the Truth how bad we are, the human race?
Turn to the Word of God! Your spirit lives,
when you with holy words your mind infuse.
The Lord alone searches hearts. He’s gives
according to the ways that we choose.
Who can our inner self to us reveal?
The Bible is a mirror, reading souls.
It doesn’t human frailties conceal
and future plans in front of us unrolls.
We are God’s enemies until He reaches us.
The Word of Scripture is a surgeon’s knife.
The Lord removes our tumours and the pus
and to repentant sinners gives His Life.
The promises of God had never failed,
His grace and love forever He imparts.
One day all our plights will be curtailed
when Jesus will create in us new hearts.
