The root of human problems

Àëüáèíà Êóìèðîâà
The problems of this world, what’s their root?
The ancient stories give us explanations -
Pandora’s box or Eve’s forbidden fruit,
but the result is one: corrupted nations
war with each other, quarrel and dispute.

Since vices gained freedom to perturb,
the world is filled with envy, lust, and malice.
These impulses are hard to stop or curb.
The world is twisted, warped, and we, like Alice
in Wonderland, have questions that disturb.

We dare to malign the Creator
for our unhappiness and mess,
though each is, at the core, born as a traitor
of God and self. We name it as “progress”,
when we deny Christ’s blood, our mediator.

The origin of sin resides in us,
in each of us, in every human being,
and sin reveals its ugly face like pus,
when people fight, disputing, disagreeing,
unable to be civil and discuss.

Is there a glaring fault in God’s design
that we are left to suffer consequences,
to gloom and doom of modern life resigned,
increasing daily our offenses,
when we reject the promises divine?

No, God is perfect, cannot make mistakes,
and He can see through all manipulations.
Through harshness of the human hearts He breaks
to re-establish “Father-child” relations,
and, for this aim, the Lord does what it takes.

God knows everyone inside out –
our motives, our weaknesses, misdeeds,
and constantly His eyes keep a lookout
for them, who could accept salvation seeds,
for those hearts, which in repentance shout.

If broken-hearted, God extends His grace,
forgiving every sin, however vile.
Christ welcomes all repentant to His place,
forever with such sinners reconciled,
and rescues from the pit the human race.
