Human glory

               "All flesh is like grass,
               and all its glory like flowers in the fields.
               The grass withers, the flower fades,
               because the breath of the Lord blows on it;
               surely the people is grass.
               The grass withers, the flower fades;
               but the word of our God shall stand forever."
                Isaiah 40:6-8

Repeated is the human story.
What does the humankind yield?
All flesh is grass, and all its glory
is like blossom of the field.

Why are we shedding sweat and tears,
if death would swallow it all?
All our hopes, joys, and fears -
all will be stifled in Sheol.

Oh why are dreams on us bestowed
that gleam in throbbing hearts like gems,
if years those dreams erode
and at their place sorrow stems?

The history repeats its lessons.
We never learn what they've meant,
though all experience, in essence,
it is a test that God had sent.

All our experience is given
to test out faithfulness and trust.
Compared to Christ, the King of Heaven,
we are disposable as dust.

Yet, if we Him alone desire,
if we repent of our deeds,
God sets our hearts for Christ on fire
and to His Heaven's glory leads.
