My war

Сания Галеева
It is painful -
For my heart and body.
I'm a dagger.
I have my own calling.

I'm a charger
Wasting my mute bullets.
I'm a garden
Having no more bloomers.

A moretta*
Is my velvet make-up.
Guess the sender
Of the words unuttered.

It is funny
But at least not awful.
I am cunning
As I'm growing older.

I'm a fighter.
My war is not finished.
And the visor
Hides my nerves and tears.

*Moretta (first invented in France) is a traditional female mask of Venetian carnivals. It was a simple oval mask made of black velvet. It contained a metal needle which a woman had to squeeze with her teeth in order to wear the mask. Thus she had to stay mute all the time and that's why the other name of the mask was Servetta Muta (Mute Maidservant).
