Is there a poem that's never been written?..
A poem whose meaning's intrinsically hidden?..
We grapple with Muses, we palm, we coerce---
But they cannot help us: 'tis, too, their curse...
Or, maybe, not woe but a quest---bane!---eternal...
Are they, too, unable to temper that yearning?
Enlisting the aid of all fairies and elves
They flitter 'round poets, they frisk future shelves.
That poem, however, is Dame Ever Flighty.
No Muse is her match; she scorns mouthy fighting.
Will ever her aureate Truths be revealed?
Methinks only when the whole Universe heals.
And so, fellow poets, our Task's no less small.
But we are aware; still heeding the Call:
Keep writing, tale-telling, infusing with Light
All planes---so the Lady bestows us her Might!
