Alykul Osmonov (March 21, 1915, Kaptal-Aryk village, Panfilovsky district, Chui region, Kyrgyzstan - December 12, 1950, Frunze, Kyrgyz SSR) - Kyrgyz poet, playwright, translator.
Having lost his parents early, he was brought up in orphanages. In 1933 he graduated from the Pedagogical College in Frunze and worked as a journalist. Until 1936 he worked in the editorial offices of the magazine "Chabuul", the newspaper "Leninchil Zhash". He has been in print since 1930. In 1935 he published his first collection of poems, Songs of the Dawn.
Author of the collections "Star Youth", "Cholponstan" (both - 1937), "Love" (1945), "New Songs" (1949), etc. He wrote and translated a lot for children.
He worked in the field of dramaturgy: the plays "Rider Kooman" (1947), "Abulkasym Dzhanbolotov" (1948), the dramatic comedy "We must go to Merka" (1949), etc.
The poem "The Knight in the Panther's Skin" by Shota Rustaveli, translated by Osmonov, went through six reprints. He translated the works of Pushkin, Lermontov, Krylov and others. He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
He died at the age of thirty-five due to lung disease, in 1950. Osmonov was posthumously awarded the first prize of the Lenin Komsomol of the republic. The Union of Writers of Kyrgyzstan established the Literary Prize named after. Alykul Osmonov. The Alykul Osmonov Prize was the third most important prize among writers in Kyrgyzstan, after the All-Union Prize named after Lenin and the Kyrgyz State Prize named after Toktogul Satylganov. In order to study the life and work of the poet in 1994, a republican public literary fund was created.
