Summer sprite

Татьяна Даина
Once I stood in an open field
feeling alone and empty,
but then the slight kiss of an autumn wind
instantly changed the setting.
I saw a face in between birch trees
smiling at me with fire.
Who was that creature revealed to me?
A sprite of that leafy pile?
Something arose from within my heart
sobbing and laughing loudly.
Summer already has played it's part
in this all seasons battle.
So I was standing there on my own
waching its end in sunset.
Tears froze on cheeks and eyes were sore.
A spleen came to me at once, and
that fairy gaze of that forest ghost,
dying, that I was sure of,
dying, and I was completely lost,
 it's truth which I can't endure.
That open field and that trembling leaves,
colorful, green and yellow,
that summer sky and that salty breeze,
all of them doomed to waning.
And even me with my youth and pride
was dying as sun was setting.
I waved my hand to the summer sprite,
as if this connection mattered.
