To be a saint

Альбина Кумирова
To be a saint - what a task! -
unfathomable goal!
Then how it's possible, I ask,
to save my own soul?

All human deeds, the very best,
are tainted oft with pride,
which we, if only truth confessed,
can from the others hide.

With all our will and self-restraint
one cannot save a soul.
Without Christ to be a saint
you'd never reach the goal.

The Lord Christ Jesus died for me
to liberate from sin.
From all my past I am set free,-
He cleanses me within.

From now on, the Bible says,
I have to holy be.
Yes, I'm always glad to praise
my God, who sets me free!

But to be holy? How could I
not fall to sin again?
Without holiness we die
to be in hell in pain.

Not always I'm good and kind,-
sometimes prone to fall.
Oh, what solution could one find
to keep pristine a soul?

The devil wants my steps to trip,
my heart to be oppressed,
but Jesus does my mind equip,
makes ready for a test.

Not in my strength can all my deeds
give sanctity to me.
That's why my soul Jesus needs,
to Him alone my plea.

He wouldn't test me more than I
can possibly endure.
His pure blood can sanctify
and keep my soul pure.

Christ's Spirit warns and daily guides
to keep me on His path,
protecting from a fall. Besides,
it spares from His wrath.

If inadvertently I might
upset my Lord and grieve,
He disciplines to set me right
and pardon to receive.

God wouldn't any sin condone,
but Jesus Christ, so meek,
would justify before the Throne
these moments, when I'm weak.

His blood would speak on my behalf,
and wipe my slate clean -
each my mistake and every gaffe,
when I was rude or mean.

If I desire to obey
remaining in God's grace,
Christ's blood would wash me, when I pray,
it's pleading for my case.
