2.7. Дюны
Вот дюны, величавы и прекрасны;
Стоят под небесами в тишине:
Высокие - опасны,
А низкие - атласны,
Гуляют призраки там в облачной стране;
Взлетают иль спадают ежечасно;
На них шиповники растут,
Цветами нежными украшенные тут!
И вот смотрю я, стоя на вершине,
На море, что раскинулось вперёд,
Суда посередине
Летят туда, где синий
Раздел меж небом и пучиной грозных вод;
И против ветра движутся к плотине,
Малы, медлительны чуть-чуть,
Что, кажется, себе прокладывают путь.
Роптанье быстрых волн, о скалы
Что бьются или рыщут на песке,
Мне уши истерзало;
Играет ветер шалый
В овраге, на скале, на бугорке;
А волны земли покоряют вдалеке;
Вновь у подножия холмов
Вернуть себе корону силой он готов.

7 THE DOWNS
1 O Bold majestic downs, smooth, fair and lonely;
2 O still solitude, only matched in the skies:
3 Perilous in steep places,
4 Soft in the level races,
5 Where sweeping in phantom silence the cloudland flies;
6 With lovely undulation of fall and rise;
7 Entrenched with thickets thorned,
8 By delicate miniature dainty flowers adorned!
9 I climb your crown, and lo! a sight surprising
10 Of sea in front uprising, steep and wide:
11 And scattered ships ascending
12 To heaven, lost in the blending
13 Of distant blues, where water and sky divide,
14 Urging their engines against wind and tide,
15 And all so small and slow
16 They seem to be wearily pointing the way they would go.
17 The accumulated murmur of soft plashing,
18 Of waves on rocks dashing and searching the sands,
19 Takes my ear, in the veering
20 Baffled wind, as rearing
21 Upright at the cliff, to the gullies and rifts he stands;
22 And his conquering surges scour out over the lands;
23 While again at the foot of the downs
24 He masses his strength to recover the topmost crowns.
